What I’m Reading

I’ve found that in blogging people want general knowledge, but they also want to know about my life.  So I try to make blog posts about medicine and mental health, but also some about my own life.  Today’s post falls into that personal column, we’re gonna talk about what I’m reading…

I generally have at least 5 books going at all times.  I know, I know, it sounds like a lot.  It might not work for some people but honestly I get bored with only one book.  I like being able to pick the subject matter.  I also like to have digital books going on my kindle app AND hardcopy books on my nightstand.   And I usually have an Audible book going….so you see its easy to have 5 books at once.

I also read from lots of genres of books.  I generally stick to nonfiction: I’m from the school of “The truth is stranger than fiction.” The best books I’ve ever read are non fiction, because while I’m reading amazing stories I can think to myself “This really happened!” 

I’ll be honest though: true crime and books about human health interest me most.  Sometimes I get lucky and find a gem that combines the two topics and that’s a great day (or 2) full of binging.  I go through stages, sometimes I can’t read fast or long enough, other times I watch Real Housewives for a few weeks and don’t read a word.  Its all about balance, right?

Sometimes I just can’t put the books down!!

Right now I’m reading: You are a BadAss at Making Money, by Jen Sincero.  I’m also reading Grist Mill Road by  Christopher Yates.  On my kindle app I’m reading The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung and Lean In by Cheryl Sandberg.  I’m just getting into self-help books.  As I grow creating all things Healthyish I’ve found that self help books seem a lot more relevant!

I’ve also downloaded a few more books but I’m waiting until my nightstand and app open up before reading them.  Those books include: The Checklist Manifesto by Dr. Atul Gawande, The Lassa Ward by Dr. Ross Donaldson and Blood and Guts by Richard Hollingham.
